WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW freshman guard Brie Mobley has been named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Rookie-of-the-Week.

A native of Winter Haven, Fla., Mobley shot 62.9 percent (22-of-35) from the floor and averaged 22.0 points per game as the Seahawks opened league play last week with home contests against Northeastern and Hofstra.

“I’m happy that Brie was recognized by the league for a pair of great individual performances,” said UNCW Head Coach Adell Harris. “To open up conference play with career highs in back-to-back contests is a very impressive feat. I'm pleased for her and hope she continues to play with the type of confidence she displayed last week.”

Mobley began the week with 20 points on a 10-of-20 effort from the floor against Northeastern Jan. 9 before establishing a new season high with 24 points on 12-of-15 shooting against Hofstra Sunday.Mobley’s 24 points against the Pride were the most points scored by a UNCW freshman since Brittany Blackwell poured in 25 against Georgia State on Feb. 10, 2008.

Through 16 games, Mobley is second on the team in scoring (11.7) and field goal percentage (.441). She also ranks third on the squad in both steals (1.4) and assists (1.3)

The Seahawks return to action Friday as they travel to two-time defending champion Delaware for a 7 p.m. contest.
