WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW men's basketball team puts its 23-game exhibition winning streak on the line Saturday afternoon when NCAA Division III foe N.C. Wesleyan visits Trask Coliseum for a 2 p.m. clash with the Seahawks.

The contest is part of a hoops doubleheader on campus. The women's basketball team makes its first public appearance under new coach Adell Harris by playing host to UNC Pembroke at 4:30 p.m.

The Seahawks, 10-21 one year ago in Buzz Peterson's second season, were picked to finish 11th in the league at the CAA's annual Media Day. It will be the lone exhibition game for the Seahawks, who have played two exhibitions the last couple seasons.

"We're excited about playing somebody different," said Peterson, who stands 4-0 in exhibition games at UNCW. "We had a scrimmage, but this will be a full game effect and get us prepared in several ways. We're looking forward to it."

The Seahawks stand 40-5 lifetime in exhibition games since their first contest back on Nov. 12, 1985. UNCW has not lost an exhibition game since being upset, 71-57, by the Court Authority on Dec. 12, 1998. Peterson's club conducted a closed scrimmage last Saturday at Coastal Carolina.

UNCW swept both of its exhibition tests one year ago by an average of 7.0 ppg. The Seahawks topped St. Andrews, 80-69, on Oct. 29 and then slipped past Saint Augustine's, 56-53, eight days later.

In the first outing last year, Keith Rendleman cranked out a double double of 14 points and 17 rebounds as the Seahawks raced out to a 12-point lead at intermission and cruised past the Knights. The Seahawks then held off the pesky Falcons by limiting Saint Augustine's to 32.2 percent shooting for the game.

N.C. Wesleyan and 18-year head coach John Thompson went 14-11 last season, including 8-4 in the USA South Conference. The Battling Bishops graduated all five starters, including All-Conference performers Domarius Thomas and Matt Dougherty, leaving Thompson some holes to fill.

"I don't know a whole lot about them," Peterson said of NCWC. "I know they have a tremendous program, but I'm more concerned about us right now.

"I hope our guys will focus on getting defensive stops, keep up their intensity the entire 40 minutes and eliminate some of our mistakes on the offensive end."

NCWC is celebrating its 50th year of men's basketball in 2012-13 after posting its fourth straight winning season. Junior guard Josh Morrison (10.0 ppg) and senior guard Cornelius Snow (6.1 ppg) are the top returning scorers for the Battling Bishops.

For the third straight year, every UNCW basketball game may be heard on Sunny 104.5 FM, with the pre-game show 30 minutes before tip-off. Mike Vaccaro and Danny Dahl will provide the call.
