WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior infielder Michael Bass was honored by Louisville Slugger as a third-team All-America selection as UNCW begins competition on Friday at the NCAA Charlottesville Regional hosted by Virginia at Davenport Field.

Bass, who was honored earlier in the month as a first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association infielder, enters the regional with a team-leading .387 batting average while also posting team-highs in runs (59), hits (79), doubles (20) and stolen bases (24).

The Seahawks earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament after winning the CAA regular season crown with an 18-8 record and going 37-21 overall.

Bass tied the UNCW school record with a 26-game hitting streak and at one point in the season held the nation’s longest on base streak at 42 games, dating back to the 2012 season.

Bass becomes UNCW’s first All-America since 2008, when Mark Carver and Brad Holt were both third-team selections by Louisville Slugger.

The Seahawks open play in the Charlottesville Regional on May 31 at 6 p.m. against long-time rival and future CAA member Elon.
