WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW will send 15 players to nine different teams in six leagues across the nation as summer collegiate baseball opens this week.

The Coastal Plain League will be the destination for a bulk of the players with eight players joining four clubs in the 14-team circuit. The hometown Wilmington Sharks will host Stephen Linkous, Will Shepley and Christian Wolfe while Martinsville will also welcome three Seahawks in Clay Lockamon, Matt Meaready and Gavin Stupienski. Whitman Barnes and Justin Carroll will play for Morehead City and Wilson, respectively.

Joe Bertone, Jacob Sasser and Daniel Stack will play for Lake Norman of the Southern Collegiate League.

Infielder Terence Connelly heads across the country to play for the Mat Su Miners of the Alaska League while Chris Gaffney will play for North Fork of the Hamptons Collegiate League.

Pitcher Jared Gesell will head to New England where he’ll play for the Vermont Mountaineers of the New England Collegiate League.

Rounding out the summer assignments is Teddy Cillis, who will play for the Glens Fall Golden Eagles in the Perfect Game Summer League in upstate New York.
