WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The Seahawks welcome Big 12 member West Virginia to Brooks Field this weekend for the first time since the 2011 season, when the Mountaineers were members of the Big East Conference.
Both teams are coming off big wins as WVU bounced nationally-ranked UNC Chapel Hill, 5-1, while the Seahawks outlasted Coastal Carolina, 7-3, in a marathon game of more than four hours in Myrtle Beach.
Former East Carolina head coach Randy Mazey is in his second season with the program following a stint as an assistant coach at TCU. Mazey guided the Pirate program from 2003 through 2005 prior to joining the Horned Frogs staff in 2007.
UNCW Head Coach Mark Scalf is in his 23rd season at the lead of the Seahawk program and enters the weekend with a career mark of 737-569-1 during that span.
The Seahawks own a 7-4 advantage in the 11-game series that started in 1969. UNCW has built a 7-2 lead at Brooks Field with the last win coming in 2011.
UNCW continues its tough schedule next week with a road contest at East Carolina on Tuesday before hosting nationally-ranked NC State on Wednesday. The Seahawks then head to James Madison to open Colonial Athletic Association play in Harrisonburg on Friday.
