WILMINGTON, North CarolinaAndy Austin’s leadoff homer in game six propelled Gold to its first win of the Blue-Gold series and Daniel Stack’s five runs batted in fueled a 15-1 whipping of Blue on Sunday at Brooks Field.

Austin set the tone, scoring three runs on two hits and Gold racked up 13 hits in the win. Christian Wolfe and Teddy Cillis each scored three times while Austin and Clay Lockamon knocked in two runs apiece. Eight-of-nine players in the Gold lineup had at least a hit.

Stack doubled twice his five RBI’s were a game-high.

Evan Phillips made the start for Gold, but wasn’t able to make it through the fifth as his pitch count caught up with him. Whitman Barnes earned the win, allowing one hit and striking out one in 2.1 innings of relief.

Barnes, Blaze tart and Cillis combined to limit Blue to three hits over 4.2 innings of shutout relief.

Leading 3-1 after three innings, Gold put the game out of reach with a seven-run fourth inning.

Nick Monroe didn’t make it out of the fourth inning and was tagged with the loss. Monroe was roughed up for eight runs on six hits and three walks in three-plus innings.

No one in the Blue lineup had a multiple-hit game. Josh Abshire scored the lone run on a sacrifice fly by Terence Connelly.

The seventh and final game of the fall series will be Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m.
