WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Luke Dunlap scored twice and knocked in two runs to back five strong innings from Blue starter Ricky Holden as Blue sailed past Teal, 9-1, in the Blue-Teal World Series on Tuesday at Brooks Field.
Holden (1-0) limited Teal to a run on five hits and two walks over five innings. Teal plated its only run of the evening in the first inning before Holden buckled down and cruised through the next four innings. Relievers Jack Lane and Kelly Secrest combined for two shutout innings to close out the contest.
Justin Livengood (0-1) allowed three runs, all in the first inning, in four innings of work for Teal.
Ryan LaGrange opened the scoring when he homered off Holden with two out in the top of the first.
Blue answered that run in the bottom half of the frame to take a 3-1 lead. Dunlap fueled the inning with a double to right that scored one. Tyler Molinaro knocked in the second run with a ground ball and Dunlap came across one batter later on a wild pitch.
Neither team scored until Blue plated a run on a RBI single from Dunlap in the fifth off reliever Jared Gesell.
Blue tacked on five runs in the sixth to make it a rout, 9-1.
The series continues on Oct. 20 with a noon start as part of Alumni Day festivities.
