Pope, Ridge Spark UNCW To 5-1 Victory

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Hunter Ridge and Thomas Pope had three hits apiece as UNCW closed out its non-conference schedule with a 5-1 win over visiting Charleston Southern at Brooks Field on Tuesday.
UNCW upped its record to 33-19 with the win and completed a series sweep of the Buccaneers. CSU saw its record fall to 20-31.
As both teams prepared for their final conference series of the season, they combined to use 15 pitchers, including eight by the Seahawks. Ricky Holden (3-0) picked up the win in a predetermined start, going three innings. Kevin Buran (0-5) suffered the loss allowing four runs over 4 2/3 innings.
Ridge finished with two runs scored and a RBI while Pope knocked in two, including one on his fourth homer of the season in the third inning that gave the Seahawks a 3-0 lead.
Drew Farber plated the final two runs of the night with a bases loaded single in the fifth.
CSU's only run of the night came in the sixth inning when Alex Tomasovich plated Chase Shelton with an infield single. Shelton, who led the CSU lineup with two hits, had tripled two batters prior.
Eight pitchers combined to strike out 15 batters on the night for UNCW. Holden finished with four while reliever Justin Livengood fanned the side in his only inning of work.
All five runs for UNCW were scored with two out.
The Seahawks close out the regular season with three games against George Mason, beginning on May 17 with a 6:30 p.m. start at Brooks Field.
