WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Starting pitcher Jordan Ramsey held Towson to two runs, one earned, on six hits and Thomas Pope knocked in three runs on three hits as UNCW powered past the Tigers, 12-2, to win its eight Colonial Athletic Association series on Sunday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks clinched a CAA tournament berth with the win and improved to 29-18 overall and 19-5 in the CAA. The Tigers saw their record fall to 21-27 and 11-13 in the circuit.

Ramsey (4-2) went a career-long 7 2/3 innings and other than a slight scuffle in the third inning when he allowed both runs, cruised through the TU lineup. He finished with four strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 3.11.

Pope missed hitting for the cycle, coming up a double shy. He tripled in the first, homered in the third and singled in the seventh, finishing 3-for4 with three runs batted in. Pope is now hitting .364 on the season.

Matt Campbell, Hunter Ridge and Jake Koenig each added a pair of hits for UNCW, who after scoring just one run in a Friday loss to Towson, plated 23 runs in the final two games.

Pope tripled in both runs in the bottom of the first when a pair of Towson players collided down the leftfield line with two outs in the inning.

Towson plated two runs in the third off Ramsey to make it a 3-2 UNCW lead. Zach Fisher doubled off the centerfield wall and scored one batter later on Ben Winter's single up the middle. Winter would go around to third on Hunter Bennett's single to right that was misplayed. Pat Fitzgerald would push across the final run of the game with a fielder's choice scoring Winter.

Leading 3-2 in the bottom of the third, Andrew Cain, who scored three runs, homered off reliever Tyler Austin to open the inning. Two batters later, Pope slammed his third homer of the season to make it 5-2.

The Seahawks added six runs in the middle three innings with Corey Dick doubling in three runs with two out in the sixth to cap that scoring as UNCW built a commanding 11-2 lead.

Towson starter Mike Volpe (0-1) lasted just two innings, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk.

Dominic Fratanuono had two hits on the afternoon for Towson.

The Seahawks visit North Carolina on May 8, in an important non-conference battle with the Tar Heels. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
