WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Jake Koenig singled home Thomas Pope in the bottom of the 10th to lift UNCW past Coastal Carolina, 5-4, in college baseball action Tuesday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks earned a split of the annual home-and-home series with Coastal Carolina and improved to 17-15. The Chanticleers dropped to 20-11 with the extra inning loss.

In the 10th, Pope led off with an infield single and Drew Farber moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. Koenig stepped to the plate and singled through the left side on the first pitch he saw from losing pitcher Aaron Burke (4-2). There was a play at the plate, but Pope snuck his hand under the tag for the winning run.

Coastal Carolina turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead with three runs in the top of the eighth against UNCW relievers Tyler DeLoach and Jack Lane. DeLoach walked three, all scored, and Lane surrendered a two-run to Rich Witten (3-for-4, 2 RBI) that gave the Chants the lead.

UNCW, however, answered in the bottom of the frame to tie it on Pope's sacrifice fly. Hunter Ridge drew the Seahawks to within 4-3 one batter earlier with an infield single.

Winning pitcher Tom Timoney (1-1) held the Chants to one hit and a walk in two innings of relief.

Tyler Molinaro joined Ridge, Pope and Farber with two hits apiece.

Daniel Bowman added two hits for the Chants, who dropped to 1-4 in extra inning games.

Ricky Holden extended his shutout streak to 19 1/3 innings with three shutout frame in relief for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks visit Charleston Southern on April 11 for a 3 p.m. start.
