Seahawks Rally Past Elon For 6-5 Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW took advantage of 10 walks and stellar relief pitching to edge Elon, 6-5, in college baseball action on Tuesday at Brooks Field.
The win snapped a season-high five-game losing skid for the Seahawks and raised their record to 24-21. Elon, meanwhile, saw its four-game winning streak halted as its record dipped to 30-18.
Led by Tom Timoney (2-1), who threw two hitless innings of relief for the win, the UNCW bullpen held the Phoenix hitless and allowed just one base runner over the final six innings.
UNCW tailed 5-1 after allowing two runs in the fifth before starting its comeback in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs coming across on a bases-loaded, two-out double by Hunter Ridge.
William Prince nailed down his third save of the season, retiring the side in order.
Grant McCoury (1-2) was credited with the loss after walking three in 2/3 innings of relief.
Elon pitchers limited the Seahawks to just three hits on the night, including five by starter David Whitehead, who allowed three runs on one hit in four innings.
Elon jumped in from with three runs in the third, first scoring on a sacrifice fly and the final two coming across on McCoury's fifth home run of the season. Two more runs in the top of the fifth staked the Phoenix to a 5-1 lead.
Sebastian Gomez and Neil Pritchard joined McGoury with two hits games.
The Seahawks next host Georgia State in an important Colonial Athletic Association series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
