Diamond Hawks Fall To #13 Coastal Carolina

Release: 04/06/2010 CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina's Jose Iglesias and Tommy La Stella each had three hits to fuel the 13th-ranked Chanticleers to a 20-1 win over UNCW on Tuesday at Charles Watson Stadium. The loss drops the Seahawks to 15-13 while the Chanticleers extended their winning streak to five and improved to 24-5. It was the first of a home-and-home series between the two teams that will conclude on April 21 at Brooks Field. Coastal Carolina scored all the runs it would need in a five-run third inning as 10 batters made their way to the plate. Two-run singles off the bats of Iglesias and Bowman highlighted the inning. Back-to-back homers by Chance Gilmore, a three-run shot, and Travis Motter in the sixth pushed Coastal's lead to 13-1 and a two-run homer by pinch hitter Josh Conway made it 15-1 and capped a six-run frame for the Chants. Keith Hessler (1-1) picked up the win for the Chants, going five innings and allowing one run, unearned, on four hits. Hessler fanned three and did not walk a batter. UNCW's only run came in the fifth on a throwing error by Hessler. Daniel Cropper (1-2) allowed five runs on a season-high nine hits in 2 2/3 innings. The Seahawks host Campbell on Wednesday at 6 p.m. It will be Time Warner Military Appreciation Night. Those with military ID, active or retired, will be admitted for free. Notes: Andrew Harnage had an 11-appearance scoreless streak snapped, allowing two runs, one earned ... Grayson Evans saw his career-high 20-game hitting streak snapped, finishing 0-4. |
