Summer Baseball Report #5

Andy Austin, OF (Covington (Valley League)) – Austin enters the final stretch of the summer season with a .250 batting average and 11 runs scored in 25 games … He’s drawn 11 walks.

Joe Bertone, OF (Lake Norman (SCBL)) – Bertone has been strong all summer and enters the weekend coming off a two-hit game on Wednesday … He’s hitting .328 with 13 walks and 13 runs batted in in 24 games.

Ryan Foster, RHP (Winchester (Valley League)) – Foster made his first start since mid-June and was saddled with the loss in a 10-0 decision against the Aldie Senators … The rough start halted a string of four solid relief appearances where he allowed just four hits over seven innings … In 24 innings this summer, he’s fanned 23 in 24 innings.

Jared Gesell, RHP (Kernersville (CVCL)) – Picked up his second win of the summer in relief to even his record at 2-2 … He’s struck out 26 in 23 innings and owns a 2.13 ERA.

Nick Monroe, RHP (Wilson (CPL)) – Made one relief appearance last week … Tossed a 1-2-3 inning of relief against Wilmington … Monroe’s made 12 appearances, stands at 1-0 and held opponents to a .184 batting average.

Evan Phillips, RHP (Laconia (NECBL)) – On July 13th, Phillips tossed a strong seven innings against Saratoga, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk. He finished with six strikeouts.

William Prince, RHP (Morehead City (CPL)) – Prince allowed three runs, one earned, in a two-inning relief stint against Fayetteville … Prince has held opponents to a .225 batting average and has struck out 16 in 19.2 innings, all in relief.

Will Shepley, LHP (Wilmington (CPL)) – Shepley allowed his first earned run of the summer in eight outings as he suffered the loss on Thursday to Wilson … His ERA still stands at a miniscule 1.04.

Gavin Stupienski, C (Hornel (NYCBL)) – Stupienski went 1-for-5 last week, making a start and two appearances off the bench.
