HEMPSTEAD, New YorkLuke Dunlap’s two-run homer to deep left lifted UNCW past Hofstra, 12-10, in the Colonial Athletic Association series finale on Saturday at University Field.

The Seahawks halted a brief three-game losing skid with the extra inning win and improved to 37-19 overall and 18-8 in the CAA. The Pride, meanwhile, was eliminated from reaching the postseason and finished the season at 26-27 and 11-16.

Blaze Tart (3-4) picked up the win in relief, striking out three and allowing two hits and a walk in two innings. Tart was the last of six pitchers used on the afternoon by the Seahawks, who improved to  4-1 in extra innings.

The Seahawks managed just a run on six hits combined in two games on Friday, but broke out the bats on Saturday with 15 hits. Dunlap finished with four runs batted in and three hits while Luis Renvill added three hits. Tyler Molinaro took over the club lead with his eighth and ninth homers of the season. Ryan LaGrange slammed his fifth round tripper of the season.

Brett Schreiber (3-3) suffered the loss, allowing Dunlap’s homer in the 10th. HU used 10 pitchers on the game.

Kevin Brantley and Jared Hammer had three hits apiece while Kenny Jackson drove in four runs on two hits, including his ninth homer of the season. Bryan Verbitsky also homered for the Pride.

Next up: The Seahawks will be the top-seed in next week’s CAA Championship tournament in Harrisonburg, Va. UNCW will begin play on Thursday.

Inside the numbers: Led by Michael Bass (3-for-4), UNCW placed its leadoff hitter on base in 6-of-10 innings … UNCW advanced runners in 16-of-26 opportunities and went 5-for-13 with RISP … The key to the game was UNCW allowing just two, two-out hits on the game … Hofstra landed its leadoff hitter on base in 7-of-10 innings.

Notes: Ryan LaGrange posted his team-leading 22nd multiple hit game of the season … LaGrange and Molinaro homered back-to-back in the fifth inning, it was the second time UNCW hit back-to-back homers this season … With four homers, UNCW tied its season-high set earlier this season at Charleston Southern (Feb. 20) … Four Seahawks were hit by pitches, tying UNCW’s season-high … Justin Livengood dropped his earned run average to 2.12 with three scoreless innings of relief … The Seahawks set a season-high with 30 total bases … UNCW’s three through six hitters combined to go 10-for-20 with six extra base hits.
