WILMINGTON, North Carolina – A first-ever trip to the West Coast and 11 games against teams that advanced to the 2013 NCAA Tournament highlight the 2014 baseball schedule for UNCW.

The Seahawks open the season with the annual Hughes Bros. Challenge on Feb. 14-16 when VMI, Kentucky and Virginia visit Brooks Field. The Cavaliers reached the Super Regionals last season and return the bulk of their players off that squad.

One week later, UNCW welcomes Liberty and Ohio to the coast for the Buffalo Wild Wings Battle at the Beach on Feb. 21-23. Liberty won its first Big South Conference championship since 2000 and reached the regional final in Columbia, S.C.

UNCW then heads to the West Coast to play in the USD Tournament hosted by San Diego. The Seahawks will play Baylor, California and host San Diego. UNCW faced San Diego last season in the Hughes Bros. Challenge at Brooks Field, but will face Baylor and Cal for the first time. The Seahawks will also visit Pepperdine for a mid-week contest in Malibu.

Other non-conference opponents for the Seahawks include future Colonial Athletic Association rival Elon (home and home), former CAA foe VCU (home, Mar. 7-9), Southern Conference member UNC Greensboro (home, Mar. 12), Indiana State (home, Mar. 14-16), Coastal Carolina (home and home), Akron (Mar. 21-23), The Citadel (May 8-9, 11) as well as College World Series participants NC State and North Carolina.

Elon enters the 2014 season as the reigning SoCon champion and eliminated the Seahawks from the Charlottesville Regional. UNCG will visit Wilmington as the two rivals resume a series that was last contested in 2005. Also returning to the schedule is Campbell, who last appeared on the slate in 2011.

In the CAA, the Seahawks visit James Madison (Mar. 28-30), William & Mary (Apr. 4-6), Delaware (Apr. 25-27) and Northeastern (May 15-17). Home series include Hofstra (Apr. 11-13), Towson (Apr. 18-20) and league newcomer Charleston (May 2-4).

The CAA Championship returns to Brooks Field in 2014 following two seasons in Harrisonburg, Va. The tournament, which has been held in Wilmington 11 times, begins May 21 and will be a six-team format.
