Summer Baseball Report #4

Andy Austin, OF (Covington (Valley League)) – Austin’s average dropped to .246 after seeing a five-game hitting streak halted … On the summer he owns a .343 on base average and scored nine runs in 18 games.

Joe Bertone, OF (Lake Norman (SCBL)) – A torrid Berton pushed his summer average to .341 for the Copperheads following a 2-for-2, three RBI effort against the Ballantyne Smokies … Berton’s scored 10 runs and knocked in nine and connected on his first homer of the summer on July 10.

Ryan Foster, RHP (Winchester (Valley League)) – Foster rebounded from a tough three-game stretch with three appearances of shutout baseball … Beginning with a 2.2 inning stint against New Market, Foster has allowed just three hits over his last 5.1 total innings with six strikeouts … His ERA is 4.82 and he owns a 2-1 mark.

Jared Gesell, RHP (Kernersville (CVCL)) – Gesell took the loss against Forest City after allowing two runs on a hit and four walks over three innings of work … He struck out five in the outing .. On the summer, he’s struck out 18 and walked 12 in 17 innings.

Nick Monroe, RHP (Wilson (CPL)) – Monroe is third on the Tobs with 11 appearances on the summer and has totaled 14 innings pitched … He owns a 3.21 ERA while limiting opponents to a .191 batting average.

Evan Phillips, RHP (Laconia (NECBL)) – Phillips struggled in his last start, allowing six earned runs on seven hits and six walks over 2.1 innings … His ERA jumped to 5.28.

William Prince, RHP (Morehead City (CPL)) – In a pair of scoreless outings, Prince lowered his ERA to 2.55 … Against Edenton, he tossed three scoreless innings, a summer high, while allowing a pair of hits and striking out two.

William Shepley, LHP (Wilmington (CPL)) – Shepley made a pair of appearances since last report and started a triple play in a loss to Peninsula … In six outings this season he’s yet to allow an earned run and opponents are hitting just .227 against him.

Gavin Stupienski, C (Hornel (NYCBL)) – Stupienski raised his average to .211 with a modest four-game hitting streak that was ended on July 11.
