WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Hofstra’s trio of Eric Ferguson, Matt Ford and Brian MacDonald had three hits apiece as UNCW dropped an 11-5 decision to Hofstra, tying the Colonial Athletic Association series on Saturday at Brooks Field.

The Pride evened its record at 12-12 overall and improved to 2-3 in the league. The Seahawks, who saw their modest three-game winning streak halted, dipped to 17-17 and 3-4 in the CAA.

HU starter David D’Errico (1-1) held UNCW to just two runs on five hits and a walk over five innings for the win. Reliever Graham Tebbit earned his first save with four innings of work.

Christian MacDonald (1-4) took the loss for the Seahawks, allowing seven runs on nine hits over three innings.

MacDonald had two doubles and a single for the Pride and knocked in three runs.

Corey Dick, Robbie Thorburn and Steven Linkous each had two hits for UNCW, which didn’t have an extra base hit on the day. All 11 hits were singles.

How it happened: The Pride broke the game open with an eight-run fourth inning, sending 13 hitters to the plate against MacDonald and UNCW relievers Ricky Holden and Matt Maready. MacDonald doubled in two runs to highlight the outburst which saw eight straight hitters come to the plate before UNCW recorded a out.

Inside the box score: Hofstra scored 6-of-8 base runners from third with less than two out … HU also went 7-for-16 in RBI opportunities … UNCW was just 2-for-10 with two out and 3-for-12 in RBI chances … The Seahawks landed just two leadoff hitters on base.

Notes: Cory Gantz gave UNCW a strong outing from the bullpen, allowing one run on six hits over 4.2 innings … Casey Golden extended his current hitting streak to eight games with a single in the third inning … The Seahawks turned three double plays for the third straight outing and have 11 in their last four games.
