WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW continues its current seven-game homestand today with a 4 p.m. first-pitch against Southern Conference member UNC Greensboro.

Today’s game will be the first between the two programs since the 2005 season and UNCG holds an 11-8 advantage in the all-time series. The Seahawks did win the last game, a 9-3 victory over the Spartans in the 2005 Hughes Bros. Challenge.

Evan Phillips, a sophomore righthander, will make his fourth start of the season and is coming off an impressive outing against nationally-ranked Pepperdine last week in Malibu, Calif. Phillips took the loss, but allowed just one earned run in 5.2 innings while lowering his staff-leading EAR to 1.62. Opponents are hitting a meager .220 against Phillips.

The Spartans come to Brooks Field fresh off a 6-5 win at East Carolina on Tuesday. UNCG opened a 4-0 lead on the Pirates and held off a late comeback attempt for the non-conference victory. Today’s game is the fifth game in as many days for the Spartans, who also played in Coastal Carolina’s tournament over the weekend in Myrtle Beach.

The Seahawks close out their homestand this weekend with a three-game series against Indiana State beginning with a 4 p.m. start on Friday.
