WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW Head Coach Mark Scalf announced the signings of Zack Canada, Justin Crump, Austin Easter, Nick Feight, Daniel Hamilton, Austin Magestro, Tyler Marshburn, Brian Mims and Josh Roberson to letters of intent for the 2015 season.

“We are extremely excited about this group of young men joining the Seahawk Baseball family and what they will bring to the program,” said Scalf. “Coach (Randy) Hood and Coach (Matt) Williams have done another outstanding job of filling our needs in the 2014 class. This is another athletic class of high character and talented young men with the competitive edge to excel on the field, in the classroom and within the community. We look forward to their arrival on campus next fall.”

The nine-member class is an impressive one in regards to rankings. Magestro and Easter are listed as top-500 recruits by Perfect Game while Hamilton and Crump are top-1000. Feight, Roberson, Canada, Mims and Roberson are all listed as “high follows” in the national rankings.

Prep: Helped Bulldogs and coach Jamie Kimrey reach 1A state playoffs from 2011-13 … Earned All-Area honors in 2013 … Struck out 90 and posted earned run average of 1.76 his junior season … As a sophomore, he compiled a 1.89 ERA and 5-1 record in 55 innings for Bulldogs.

Austin Easter, RHP (Sparta, N.C./Alleghany)

Prep: Helped Trojans and coach Zack Bennett to Mountain Valley Conference title and State 1A playoffs in 2013 … Earned All-Mountain Valley Conference honors his sophomore and junior seasons … Was honorable mention all-conference as a freshman and earned Silver Slugger Award (highest average) … Dominated as a junior on the mound with a 4-1 record and 2.14 ERA … Struck out 70 in 36 innings while tossing a no-hitter and four one-hitters … Went 2-2 as a sophomore.

Scalf on Tyler Marshburn : Tyler is a multi-talented player and adds depth to our catching position. He owns a strong arm and can play third base. That arm also shows well on the mound where he has reached the low 90’s. At the plate, Tyler is a middle-of-the-order hitter from both sides of the plate.”

Brian Mims, INF (Montclair, Va./Forest Park)
