CAA Player of the Week Nominee: Luke Dunlap, Soph., OF, Walnut Cove, N.C./East Forsyth

- Dunlap continues his torrid pace at the plate, hitting a team-high .563 (9-16) last week with three runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and 11 runs batted in. He posted a 1.063 slugging average and drew three walks for a .632 on base average. Dunlap extended his hitting streak to a career-long 15 games He’s tied for second on the club with a .385 batting average and is also tied for the lead with 35 RBI’s.

Remaining Schedule: The Seahawks have 11 games left on the docket, including six games, all within the CAA, at home (Northeastern, William & Mary) … The five road games include non-conference tilts at NC State and Coastal Carolina and a three-game series at Hofstra to end the regular season. UNCW (13-4, .765) holds a 2.5 game lead over William & Mary (11-7, .611) and Towson (11-7, .611) in the CAA pennant race.

Record Watch: Hunter Ridge, who became UNCW’s all-time hits leader in March, is poised to take the lead in RBI’s. He enters the week second all-time with 181 RBI. Jonathan Batts (2004-07) holds the school career record with 182 while former standout Matt Wright (2000-03) is now third with 180 … Michael Bass is now fifth with 70 stolen bases … Bass (.426) is also bidding to become just the fourth Seahawk to hit .400 in a season … Bass moved into fifth all-time with 455 assists … With three games played over the weekend, Bass also became the 11th Seahawk to play in 200 or more games, with 200 entering the week.

Toppling Numero Uno: The Seahawks recorded their first-ever win against a number one ranked opponent when they topped host North Carolina, 9-8, on Tuesday in Chapel Hill … The previous highest win against a ranked opponent was a 15-5 whipping of East Carolina in 2005, in the final game played at Harrington Field … UNCW is 3-2 this season against nationally-ranked opponents.

Streaks: Michael Bass reached base safely in all four games last week to push his streak to 41 games and is within Nate Hall’s record of 43, set in 2008. Luke Dunlap and Ryan LaGrange extended their hitting streaks to 15 and 14 games, respectively … Dunlap is hitting a robust .491 (26-53) during that span with five doubles, four homers and has driven in 22 runs to move into a tie for the team lead (35) … LaGrange, meanwhile, is hitting .466 during his streak, going 27-58 with seven doubles.

Mound Report: The Seahawks had their worst week of the season on the bump, posting a 6.35 ERA as a staff … Mat Batts picked up the win against Towson with a nine-strikeout performance … Kelly Secrest earned the win in relief against UNC, tossing five and 2/3 innings of 1-hit, shutout baseball … Freshman Evan Phillips held Towson to a run over three innings on Saturday … In taking the loss on Sunday against Towson, Jordan Ramsey saw a string of six consecutive starting wins halted.

A Look at April: The Seahawks went 12-5, including a 7-3 mark on the road … Luke Dunlap hit .475 (28-59) with five doubles, four home runs and he knocked in 23 while scoring 18 … He also drew 17 walks and struck out just four times … On the bump, Mat Batts went 3-1 with a 2.43 ERA and limited opponents to a .222 batting average … He walked just five and fanned 35 in 29.2 innings … UNCW outhit its opponents, .302-.253, and fielded at a .965 clip … UNCW pitchers combined for a 3.60 ERA while opposing hurlers compiled a 5.11 ERA.

After Further Research: UNCW skipper Mark Scalf is the all-time winningest coach in conference play with a 293-190-1 mark.

Notes: The Seahawks stayed in first place in the CAA despite dropping their series at Towson … UNCW posted an impressive 6-2 mark during this road stretch that included wins at East Carolina, George Mason, North Carolina and Towson … Corey Dick homered three times over the weekend to move into a tie with Tyler Molinaro for the team lead with seven round trippers … Drew Fraber collected two RBI’s against Towson to set a new career season high with 35 on the season and tied with Dunlap for the lead … The win over UNC snapped a 13-game losing streak for the Seahawks against their instate rivals … UNCW’s last win over the Tar Heels was in 2003 when they blanked the Heels, 5-0, at Boshamer Stadium … The Seahawks have dropped consecutive games just three times this season … The series loss at Towson was UNCW’s first weekend series loss of the season … UNCW saw its record at Schuerholz Park evened at 9-9, but they lead the all-time series, 32-15.
