WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Matt Soren delivered six strong innings and Jimmy Yezzo and D.J. Long had three hits apiece as Delaware prevented a sweep at the hands of UNCW on Sunday with an 11-7 win at Brooks Field.

The Blue Hens ran their record to 24-10 and 10-5 with the road win while the Seahawks had a five-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 26-11 and 9-2 in the league.

Soren (3-1) allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits and four walks, but fanned six and pitched out of several jams with the lead. Stephen Richter recorded the final two outs for his third save of the season.

UNCW starter Christian MacDonald (4-1) didn’t make it out of the second inning in taking his first loss of the season. MacDonald was tagged for five runs, just two earned, in one and 2/3 innings.

The Seahawks committed season-high five errors that lead to six unearned runs.

UNCW’s Michael Bass saw his school-record tying 26-game hitting streak come to an end after going 0-for-4 with a walk and hit by pitch.

Luke Dunlap collected two hits and drew three walks to lead the Seahawks. Hunter Ridge, Ryan LaGrange and Terence Connelly each had two hits.

UD’s Cameron Travalini scored four runs and added two hits while Tyler Powell knocked in three runs.

Up next: The Seahawks begin an eight-game road stretch on Apr. 16 at East Carolina (6 p.m.).

How it happened: Delaware scored twice in the first inning off MacDonald on a two-run double by Powell and then added three unearned runs in the second inning to take a commanding 5-0 lead after two innings. The Seahawks narrowed their deficit to 8-7 with five in the seventh, but UD tacked on a run in the eighth and two more in the ninth to close out the scoring.

Inside the numbers: Both teams put their leadoff hitter on base five times, Delaware scored that runner three times … UD advanced runners on 21-of-35 opportunities while the Seahawks were 15-for-31 … With two out, UD went 5-for-16 and score five runs … UNCW went 3-for-18 in RBI situations.
