Scalf Named ABCA East Coach-of-the-Year

Release: 07/03/2012 WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW head baseball coach Mark Scalf was named ABCA East Region Coach-of-the-Year after guiding the Seahawks to the NCAA tournament for the fifth time in the program's history. Scalf will be one of eight coaches honored as regional coaches of the year at the 2013 ABCA Convention in Chicago in January. "I'm honored to be recognized by the ABCA," said Scalf. "This is an honor for the program, my assistants, players and program supporters. Without their help and assistance, we couldn't have had as a successful season as we did." In his 21st season that the helm, Scalf helped the Seahawks to a 39-23 record, a third Colonial Athletic Association tournament championship and their fifth regular season championship overall. After opening up 3-9, the Seahawks finished the season with a 36-14 mark, including a 24-6 mark in the CAA as they won all 10 series and recorded four weekend sweeps against conference opponents. UNCW posted a 20-15 mark away from Brooks Field, setting a program record for road wins. The 2012 honors marks the fourth time Scalf has earned the award after doing so in 2003, 2006 and 2008. He was also honored as the CAA Coach-of-the-Year for the fifth time. |
