PANTHERSVILLE, Georgia - Tyler McSwain tossed his second complete game, this one a shutout, and Hunter Ridge and Thomas Pope combined for seven hits and seven runs batted in as UNCW beat host Georgia State, 15-0, in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action Friday.
With their sixth straight win, the Seahawks improved to 26-16 overall and 16-3 in the league. GSU, meanwhile, dropped to 18-24 and 9-10.
McSwain (7-2) needed just 101 pitches in going the distance and earning his 20th career win. He scattered seven hits, walked none and struck out seven. He became the 12th pitcher in UNCW history to win 20 games.
Neither team could score in the first five innings as McSwain and GSU starter Justin Malone (1-2) were locked in a pitcher's duel.
The Seahawks drew first blood in the top of the sixth with a pair of unearned runs. Ridge (3-6, 4 RBI) plated the first run with an infield hit and Drew Farber drew a bases loaded walk two batters later to push the second run across.
UNCW used some two-out magic in the seventh, scoring seven runs on six hits. Ridge singled in two runs and Pope followed with bases-clearing triple, the fifth of the season for him, to score two more. Corey Dick, who had three hits and four runs batted in, doubled into the left centerfield gap to score two more runs and cap the outburst.
In the Seahawk ninth, Dick belted his fifth homer of the season to highlight a six-run outburst as UNCW batted around for the second time on the evening.
Every Seahawk starter had a hit and scored a run.
GSU was only able to get a runner as far as third base once, coming in the first inning.
Brandon Williams, Joey Wood and Caden Bailey had two hits apiece for the Panthers.
The series continues on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start.
