UNCW Baffles Cougars In 6-3 Win

CHARLESTON, South Carolina - UNCW's pitching staff combined to strike out 16 hitters and the Seahawks took advantage of several miscues for a 6-3 win over homestanding College of Charleston on Tuesday at Patriots Point.
The Seahawks improved to 7-9 overall with their fourth consecutive win and their first road win of the season. The Cougars had a three-game winning streak halted and dropped to 12-4.
William Prince (2-1) earned the win in relief after striking out a career-high tying six batters in two innings.
CofC starter Griffin Jones (0-1) surrendered five runs, three earned, in five innings.
Rob Harding singled in two runs in the bottom of the third for the Cougars to make it 4-2.
Corey Dick, who finished with two hits, singled home a run in the sixth for a 6-3 lead. The Cougars had cut their deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth on Dre Watts' single.
UNCW's final run of the contest came with two outs on a CofC error that allowed Thomas Pope to score from second for a 6-3 lead.
Tyler DeLoach struck out four and closed out the game for his first save of the season. He became the fourth different Seahawk to record a save in each of the last four victories.
UNCW returns to Colonial Athletic Association action this weekend when it visits Delaware for a three-game series that opens on Friday at 3 p.m.
