WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNC Wilmington volleyball team has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as a Team Academic Award winner for the 2007-2008 season. It is the third consecutive season that the team has received the distinction.

The Seahawks were one of only 70 NCAA Division I institutions to be honored and the only member of the Colonial Athletic Association on the list.

“I am very proud of our team,” UNCW head coach Jennifer McCall said. “The AVCA Academic Award is one of our team goals each year. Our student-athletes make a big commitment to the classroom and it is nice to have them honored and recognized for their hard work.”

The award, which was initiated by the AVCA during the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Located in Lexington, Ky., the AVCA is committed to the development, growth, advancement and publicity of volleyball throughout the world. Members are comprised of national and international coaches, collegiate, high school, club, youth and Olympic coaches, as well as club directors.
