WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW sophomore right side hitter Christi Laite was named to the 2011 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State volleyball team on Thursday.
"We are excited to hear that Christi has been recognized as an All-State performer," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "To be recognized among the elite collegiate players in the state of North Carolina is truly a great accomplishment, one I'm sure that Christi shares with her teammates."
Laite makes her inaugural appearance on the All-State team after pacing the Seahawks in kills (3.28) and points (3.92) per set in 2011, ranking among the leaders in the Colonial Athletic Association in both categories. A product of Severna Park, Md., Laite finished her sophomore campaign among the program's single-season leaders in total kills (361) and was a Second-Team All-CAA selection, becoming the program's All-Conference honoree since 2003.
Laite was joined on the team by setter Heather Feldman of Gardner-Webb, outside hitters Ariel Newman of UNC Greensboro and Bianca Rouse of Charlotte, middle hitters Andrea Beck of Wake Forest and Caroline Lemke of Elon and Phoenix libero Ali Deatsch.
