WILMINGTON, North Carolina  - With the regular season opener 21 days away, the UNCW volleyball team began preparations for the 2013 season Thursday with the start of preseason training.

The Seahawks opened training camp with team meetings in the morning before getting to work on the freshly-resurfaced floor of Hanover Hall in the evening.

“Ever since we began our spring training last January the anticipation for our 2013 season has been at an all-time high,” said Bambenek. “We have an extremely dedicated and experienced group returning, along with some talented freshman that will give us depth and competition for playing time in all positions.  I feel that we have all the right pieces in place along with a fighting attitude towards achieving our goals and the players to help take a leap forward for the program as a whole”

Fifth-year Head Coach Amy Bambenek welcomes back 11 letterwinners and four starters from her 2012 squad. Bambenek also brings in seven newcomers for the upcoming season ready to make their UNCW debut in 2013.

Prior to the start of training camp, the Seahawks took time to bond away from the court prior to the start of preseason training, gathering for a team meal before taking in the sights of historic downtown Wilmington Wednesday.

UNCW opens the 2013 season Aug. 30-31, taking part in the Kristen Dickmann Invitational in Annapolis, Md. The Seahawks will face Elon, UIC and host Navy in the two-day event.
