GREENSBORO, North Carolina - Junior Olivia Humphries notched a match-high 25 kills to lead UNC Greensboro to a 3-2 (18-25, 15-25, 27-25, 26-24, 15-13) come-from-behind victory over UNCW in collegiate volleyball action Friday in the Spartan Spiketacular.

The Spartans improved to 5-4 overall with the win while the Seahawks saw their season mark evened at 6-6 as they suffered their second straight five-set setback. UNCW returns to action Saturday in the Spartan Spiketacular with matches against Morehead State (9:30 a.m.) and Youngstown State (4:30 p.m.).

"It really stings to have this happen to us again after winning the first two sets," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "It was an intense battle on both sides of the net and I felt we did some really good things, but failed to execute during crunch time. It's important that we can learn quickly from our mistakes and be better prepared for two tough matches tomorrow."

Humphries powered the Spartans attack, finishing with a .388 attack percentage as she committed just six errors in 49 total attack attempts. Sophomore Vicky Harley joined Humphries in double figures with 16 spikes while sophomore Kelsey Sidney tallied nine. Sophomore setter Emily McMurtey dished out a team-high 55 assists. Junior Kellie Orewiler and freshman Katherine Santiago notched 19 digs apiece while Humphries pitched in 11 bumps to finish with a double-double.

Sophomore Morgan Kline tallied 18 kills to lead three UNCW players in double figures as junior Christi Laite notched 16 and sophomore McKenzie Keightley added 15 spikes on the strength of a .560 hitting percentage. Keightley also pitched in a match-high seven total blocks, with one solo rejection, as the Seahawks combined for 12 blocks during the contest.

Senior Natalie Lahaie dished out a match-high 58 assists and added 11 digs for her first double-double of the season while Kline added 14 digs to post her third double-double of the campaign. Junior Haley Collins notched a team-high 21 digs and freshman Lindsay Hartmann pitched in 11 to give the Seahawks four players with double-digit digs.

With the score tied at 7-all in the first set, a kill by freshman Meredith Peacock sparked the Seahawks to a 10-4 run and a 17-11 advantage. The Spartans ended the Seahawks run with three straight points to trim the deficit to 17-14, but the Seahawks responded with eight of the final 12 points of the frame to post a 25-18 victory.

The Seahawks and Spartans traded points early and often in the second set, playing to a total of eight ties in the early going until, with the score deadlocked at 11-all, a spike by Kline sent UNCW on a 14-4 run and a commanding 25-15 victory.

The third set saw UNCG take advantage of a 9-3 spurt during the middle portion of the frame to build a 17-11 lead. The Spartans expanded their cushion to seven, 21-14, before the Seahawks fought back, scoring nine of the next 12 points to level the score at 23-all. The two sides proceeded to trade points until a UNCW error and a kill by Humphries broke a 25-all tie and propelled UNCG to a 27-25 triumph.

The Seahawks took control of the fourth set early, building an early 10-3 advantage on its way to an 18-10 cushion later in the set. The Spartans would rally, notching eight of the next nine points to pull within one, 19-18. UNCW would notch five of the next eight points to force match point, 24-21, before UNCG stormed back, scoring five unanswered points to record a 26-24 victory and force a fifth set.

UNCW took advantage of a 5-1 spurt to take an 8-4 lead midway through the fifth set, only to see the Spartans respond with 10 of the next 14 points to force match point at 14-12. A service error by the Spartans pulled the Seahawks within one, 14-13, but a kill by Humphries gave UNCG a 15-13 decision and the match.
