WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior Angie Sekely’s nine-match winning streak has not gone unnoticed. The UNCW senior from Mississauga, Ontario, has been selected the Colonial Athletic Association’s Women’s Tennis Player-of-the-Week.

Sekely went 2-0 last week to help the Seahawks extend their winning streak to seven matches with wins over East Carolina and Delaware. Coach Evan Clark’s team carries a 12-3 record into Friday’s 2 p.m. home date with Colonial Athletic Association rival College of Charleston.

"I don't think there’s anyone more deserving of this award than Angie,” said Clark, who is closing out his second season with the team. “Her record speaks for itself and it's a testament to the hard work she has put in."

Sekely cruised past ECU’s Melis Tanik, 6-3, 6-1, and trounced UD’s Danea Jonjic, 6-2, 6-1, to hike her singles record to a sparkling 13-1 this spring. She has played all but one match at the No. 1 singles position.

Sekley is one of two Seahawks honored by the CAA this spring. Sophomore Christine Kharkevich collected Player-of-the-Week accolades two weeks ago.
