GREENVILLE, North Carolina – The UNCW women’s tennis team went 6-2 in singles and a perfect 7-0 in doubles play on the opening day of the East Carolina Invitational Friday at River Birch Tennis Park.

The Seahawks, competing in their final tournament of the fall season, are facing opponents from ECU, Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State in the three-day event.

UNCW won singles matches in the top four flights before suffering setbacks in the sixth and seventh flight. Angie Sekely, Olga Blank, Alyssa Ritchie, Christine Kharkevitch, Hollie Champion and Alix Theodossiou each won singles matches.

In doubles, the Seahawks did not lose a match in the four flights. The tandem of Kelly Cameron and Miller Hales won two matches, along with Blank and Champion and Theodossiou and Hamilton Lovett.

Each player is scheduled to compete in three singles and three doubles matches, including two doubles and one singles on Friday, followed by one doubles and two singles matches on Saturday.

All doubles contests will be an eight-game match, and singles will be decided in a two out of three sets format with a 10-point tie-breaker as the third set, if necessary.
