Release: 09/06/2012 WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Eight different schools will be represented this weekend when the UNCW/Landfall Fall Tennis Invitational runs Friday through Sunday at the Country Club of Landfall's Tennis Center. UNCW will be joined by players from Arkansas, East Carolina, Old Dominion, UNC Charlotte and VCU in the men's competition. There will be three singles flights and two doubles flights, with play beginning Friday at 8 a.m. The women's field features players from UNCW, Costal Carolina, VCU and West Virginia. The women will have four singles flights and two doubles flights. The first matches start at 8 a.m. Friday. Admission and parking is free for all three days of the event, which will be played on the clay surface at CCL. "We're very excited to get our fall season started and feel very fortunate to be able to do it right here in Wilmington," said Mait DuBois, UNCW's sixth-year men's head coach. "The tennis community at the Country Club of Landfall has always been extremely supportive and gracious. It's a pleasure for us to be able to have our event there. The facilities and crowd support we receive is like no other college tournament in the country. "Our players continued to make strides on their own this past summer. We had a number of players sampling ITF Futures events and maintaining very active tournament schedules. This weekend will be our first opportunity to get a feel for where we are. We have some quality teams coming in and the level of play will be very high." Brackets for all of the flights will be announced late Thursday and posted with this story. |
