'Hawks No. 2, No. 3 Seeds In CAA Tennis

Release: 04/16/2012 WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW women's tennis team has earned the No. 2 seed and the men's unit is locked into the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Virginia 529 CAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships that get under way later this week in Norfolk, Va. The tournament runs Thursday through Sunday, April 20-22, at Old Dominion's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. Coach Jenny Garrity's team, 14-6 overall and 6-1 in conference play during the regular season, plays its first match Friday at 11 a.m. The Seahawks are coming off a 4-3 win over No. 74 UNC Greensboro in their last outing and face the winner of a first-round match between No. 7 Delaware and No. 10 Hofstra. Coach Mait DuBois and his club, 15-5 overall and 1-1 in CAA action, take on No. 6 William & Mary in a quarterfinal match on Friday at 8:30 a.m. The 41st-ranked Seahawks are the defending champions and have won two of the last three tournaments. The team was the No. 3 seed last spring and defeated No. 6 James Madison, No. 2 Georgia State and No. 1 VCU in succession for its second crown. |
