MT. PLEASANT, South Carolina – Junior Alyssa Ritchie will play for the championship in A1 Singles and partner with Angie Sekely in the A2 Doubles final when the UNCW women’s tennis team concludes play in the  12th Annual College of Charleston Invitational Sunday at the CofC Tennis Center.

"We continue to get better each day,” said second-year UNCW Head Coach Evan Clark following Saturday’s action. “I’m really pleased with progress and we are looking forward to playing our way to some titles on Sunday."

The Seahawks, one of seven teams playing in the three-day event at Patriots Point outside of Charleston, are wrapping up their first appearance of the fall season.

Ritchie improved to 3-0 in the A1 Singles draw Saturday when Samford’s Yasmeen Ebada retired after trailing, 4-0. Ritchie will face Armstrong Atlantic’s Marlen Hacke in Sunday’s championship match.

In addition, Ritchie and Sekely advanced to the finals of the A2 Doubles bracket by winning two matches early Saturday. The tandem trimmed Charleston’s Brooke McAmis and Samantha Maddox, 8-6, and then knocked off Stetson’s Lindsey Cable and Eveline Lepinay, 8-5, in the semifinals. Ritchie and Sekely will battle Samford’s Jessica Northcutt and Emily Mallory in the finale Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

Overall, the Seahawks went 5-3 in singles matches and 4-2 in doubles action during Saturday’s second day of play.
