BLOOMINGTON, Indiana - Indiana swept every match to overwhelm UNCW, 7-0, in the opening leg of a three-match road swing to the Hoosier State on Sunday for the Seahawk women's tennis team.
The Hoosiers improved to 10-3 after beating No. 66 DePaul and UNCW on the same day. The Seahawks are an even 4-4 this spring.
IU took the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. The No. 3 team of Alexia Kauss and Shannon Murdy blanked UNCW's Alyssa Ritchie and Christine Kharkevich, 8-0, before the top tandem of Leslie Hureau and Sophie Garre trimmed Olga Blank and Angie Sekely, 8-2, to secure the point.
In singles, the Hoosiers continued to roll, winning at No. 5 and No. 3 singles before clinching the match with Murdy's 6-2, 6-0 victory against Kharkevich at the No. 6 position.
Sekely lost a tough battle to Hureau at the top of the lineup. The Mississauga, Ontario, junior won the first set in a tie-breaker, 7-6, before falling in the second set in a tie-breaker. Hureau then outlasted Sekely, 11-9, in a superbreaker for the victory.
