WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The No. 39-ranked UNCW men's tennis team shut out its third straight opponent by sweeping past state rival Campbell, 6-0, Saturday at the UNCW courts.

The Seahawks, who played singles first because of the threat of inclement weather, hiked their record to 6-1 heading into a key two-match road swing to regional powers South Carolina and N.C. State. CU fell to 3-4 in the final match of a three-match road swing.

"Campbell is a team that always plays very well against us," said Mait DuBois, UNCW's sixth-year head coach. "They are a very talented team. It's always a little different playing singles first and Campbell did a much better job starting the match. Our group responded very well in the big moments and we did well to win every singles match today.

"We have played a little better every match and have some good things going right now. We will take a lot of confidence into our two road matches next week."

 In Saturday's match against the Camels, No. 6 player Pedro Mol ripped CU's Rik Van Gerwen, 6-2, 6-2, to put the Seahawks on the board and sophomore Sam Williams collected the second point with a 6-4, 6-2 pounding of Adrien Rossignon at the No. 3 slot.

UNCW's top player, No. 17 Rafael Aita, continued the roll by cruising past No. 64 Fernando Guillen, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles and senior Chris Cooprider clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Steven Billington at the No. 2 slot.

Sophomore Zach Hublitz had a memorable match at No. 5 singles. He trailed, 9-2, in the third set tie-breaker before rallying to win 7-6(5), 4-6, 1-0 (12-10).

Rain halted doubles action, resulting in the 6-0 verdict for the surging Seahawks.

The Seahawks visit the Gamecocks on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. match and then travel to play the Wolfpack on Saturday at Noon. Campbell entertains Big South rival Radford on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
