WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW men's tennis team spent time away from the courts recently to mentor at-risk youths as part of the unique "Ocean Cure" initiative at nearby Wrightsville Beach.

Head Coach Mait DuBois and his club worked with youth ages 6-15 by providing surfing lessons and other tips for managing the ocean's sometimes challenging conditions.

"We were truly inspired by what 'Ocean Cure' is trying to accomplish and it was a real pleasure for our guys to spend some time with these wonderful young people," said DuBois. "When young people are able to overcome their fears and accomplish something they didn't believe was possible, it helps them the rest of their lives. We appreciate Kevin Murphy allowing us the opportunity to be part of the program and hope we can continue to be involved."

"Ocean Cure" conducts charity surfs camps to promote the emotional and physical healing properties of the sea through surfing. Instructors guide participants through their fear and apprehension, empowering them to overcome obstacles they may face in their lives.

The Seahawks open their fall season on Sept. 21-23 when they compete in the Elon Invitational in Elon, N.C.
