Damp Conditions Halt Tennis Match

Release: 01/22/2010 WILMINGTON, N.C. - Soggy conditions stopped UNC Wilmington's men's tennis match with Gardner-Webb Friday at the UNCW courts. The Seahawks swept the doubles points from the Bulldogs before the opening match of the spring season was called. The two teams will try to reschedule the remainder of the match later in the spring, UNCW's No. 2 doubles tandem of Michael Pereira and Ryan Ybarra got the Seahawks off to a strong start with an 8-3 victory over GWU's Adam Knuttson-Sunblad and Andrew Veeder. The No. 3 team of Illia Ziamtsou and Kosta Blank then edged Matthew Parker and Jeremie Tardif, 8-3, to give UNCW a 2-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, GWU's Evgeny Siesarev and Rafael Altmayer defeated UNCW's Max Ando Hirsh and Kinshuk Sharma, 8-4, in the last match to finish before play was discontinued. The Seahawks will be back at the UNCW courts on Saturday to entertain Coastal Carolina at 1:30 p.m.
