WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW men's tennis team has moved up to No. 39 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings after splitting a pair of matches in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event in Gainesville, Fla.
The Seahawks, 3-1, entered last weekend's tournament ranked 42nd nationally. UNCW defeated No. 53 South Alabama, 5-2, in the first-round before falling, 4-2, to 12th-ranked Florida at the Ring Tennis Complex.
UNCW opens a three-match homestand on Saturday, Feb. 9, when USC-Upstate visits for a Noon test.
"We had a good confidence-building week last week," said Mait DuBois, UNCW's sixth-year head coach. "We posted a decisive victory over a very good South Alabama team and played very well against a top-12 team in Florida. I'm pleased that our progress has been recognized by fellow ITA coaches, and we hope to continue to build on that progress."
UNCW is one of four North Carolina schools in the poll. Duke (5), UNC Chapel Hill (19) and N.C. State (35) are also on the list.
