JONESBORO, Tenn.
-Junior Josh Brock fought through wintery conditions to finish in a tie for
fifth place on Sunday at the Bank of Tennessee At The Ridges Tournament on
Sunday while the Seahawks finished 11th among the nationally-ranked field.
Brock carded a three-over 75 on Sunday to finish two-under-par for the
tournament and in a six-way tie for fifth. The Wilmington, N.C.,
native breezed through the final round until the last six wholes when a trio of
bogeys were recorded.
Oregon State's Diego Velasquez (66-70-70=206) earned tournament medalist
honors by finishing 10-under for the weekend and earning a seven-stroke victory
over Garland Green (71-71-71=213) of Virginia Tech and Matt Hill (71-71-71=213)
of N.C. State.
Tennessee and Oregon State finished tied for first, but UT won the
tie-breaker when going to the fifth scorecard.
UNCW struggled, along with the rest of the tournament field, in the
final round with a score of 302. Duke, which rallied for a fifth-place finish,
was the only team to post a below-par round at five-under.
Junior Ryan Sullivan (71-73-75=219) finished in a tie for 25th for the
Seahawks. Sullivan opened the final round four-over in the first nine, but
rallied with a birdie and an eagle to go one-under on the back nine.
Senior Derek Wallace (78-73-76=227) failed to finish in the top 10 for
the first time this fall after finishing tied for 55th. Wallace closed out the
tournament with a final round of 76.
Freshman Stefan Brewer (75-77-76=228) was tied for 63rd while sophomore
Taylor Zimmerman (75-77-86=238) finished 78th overall.
The tournament was the fall finale for Head Coach Matt Clark's program.
The Seahawks will open their spring schedule on Mar. 1 when they host the
Seahawk Intercollegiate.
