KANNAPOLIS, North CarolinaPayne McLeod posted his fourth top-10 finish of the year, finishing in a tie for fourth to lead UNCW, which tied for fifth, at the Irish Creek Collegiate on Sunday at the Club at Irish Creek.

North Carolina, which led wire-to-wire, finished off its tournament win by two strokes over a hard-charging NC State squad.

Kennesaw State’s Jimmy Beck claimed medalist honors by a stroke over Charlotte’s Franco Castro, who carded a tournament low 65 in the third round.

Thomas Bass joined McLeod in the top-20 with a 17th-place finish.

The Seahawks opened the final round tied for third, but fashioned a 298 in the final round to fall back to fifth and a tie with Davidson.

UNCW now readies for the Colonial Athletic Association championships on Apr. 26-28. The two-time defending champions will compete for the league’s title at St. James Plantation in Southport, N.C.
