Payne helped the Seahawks to a fourth-place finish at the Rees Jones Invitational earlier this week as he posted his first top-10 finish of the season and the 14th of his career by finishing second. McLeod (71-70-75=216) fashioned an even-par-score over the course of the tournament and recorded 12 birdies for the tournament, including five in each of the first two rounds. UNCW finished behind champion Kennesaw State and South Florida and South Carolina, who both were tied for second.

Team Notes: The Seahawks topped nationally-ranked Liberty by seven strokes and finished behind 20th-ranked South Carolina by seven strokes … Stefan Brewer posted three more rounds of solid golf and finished in a tie for ninth … It was his fourth career top-10 finish and his first regular season top-10 since his freshman season when he was the CAA’s Rookie-of-the-Year … Ryan Nagy, the league’s first player-of-the-week this season, closed out the Rees Jones with a team-best two-over-par 74 in the final round … Brewer (73.2), Nagy (74) and McLeod (74.2) lead the Seahawks in stroke average.

Next Tournament: The Seahawks will compete in the Wolfpack Invitational on Oct. 6-7 before closing out the fall with the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate (Oct. 11-13) in Johnson City, Tenn.

#Birdies4Kaitlyn: UNCW recorded 44 birdies at the Rees Jones to raise its total to 85 on the season. Stefan Brewer (21), Ryan Nagy (19) and Payne McLeod (16) are the team leaders in birdies.

Record Book Watch: Payne McLeod moved into 10th on UNCW’s all-time list with 103 rounds played … Stefan Brewer is poised to move into the top 10 also with 102 rounds under his belt … McLeod moved to within .03 strokes of Josh Brock for the program’s all-time lead in scoring … McLeod (14) trails Josh Brock and Adam Gee, both with 17, for second on the most top-10 finishes list.
