WILMINGTON, North
Carolina - The UNCW men's golf program has been recognized by the Golf
Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and Farmers Insurance with a Team
Academic Award.
The Seahawks collected the honor after posting a combined
grade point average of 3.33 for the 2011-12 year. On the links, UNCW claimed its second
straight Colonial Athletic Association championship and advanced to the NCAA
tournament for the third consecutive year.
"I'm very proud of our guys for achieving this recognition,"
said fourth-year Head Coach Matt Clark. "They balanced life as a
student-athlete very well and made it a priority to perform well in the
classroom, too. This ranks right up there with winning the conference
championship as far as we're concerned."
Rising junior Thomas Bass, the CAA's Golfer-of-the-Year, earned GCAA All-America honors last week after compiling a
3.37 GPA.
