With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, the series between the Seahawks and Tigers will have major implications in the race to earn a spot in the upcoming CAA Championship. Towson enters the weekend in possession of the fourth and final spot in the championship while UNCW can greatly improve its chances of qualifying with a series win or sweep. The top four teams in the CAA qualify for the CAA Championship, scheduled for May 7-9 at the home of the league’s regular season champion.

In the circle, junior Casey Rowland remains the ace of Head Coach Kristy Norton’s staff as she leads the team with a 3.17 earned run average and 153 strikeouts in 154.2 innings pitched. Rowland enters the weekend coming off an impressive performance against Campbell that saw her strikeout a program-record 17 batters in 8.1 innings of work in the opener of the mid-week twinbill.

Towson (25-19; 4-5 CAA) return home this weekend after wrapping up non-conference play with non-league games at Mount St. Mary’s (W 3-1) and Georgetown (L 10-1) earlier in the week. Hailey Balk highlights a potent Tigers lineup that features a combined batting average of .294 with 59 hits while Maureen Hepner leads the league in both home runs (10) and runs batted in (45). In the circle, the trio of Missy McCormick, Ambar Hickman and Megan Chocallo have combined to pitch all of Towson’s 290.0 innings the field this season. McCormick currently leads the group in appearances (24), wins (14), complete games (6) and strikeouts (103).

Squaring off against each other for the 11th straight season, Towson holds a 25-11 lead over UNCW in the all-time series and has won each of the past five matchups, including a sweep of their league series last April at Boseman Field.
