WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW freshman first baseman Jordan Critcher
was named to the Colonial Athletic Association's All-Rookie Team as the league announced
its annual awards on Tuesday.
Critcher becomes just the ninth player in school history to earn the distinction and the first since graduating senior Kelsey Eddinger received the honor in 2009. "We are happy to have Jordan recognized as a member of the CAA All-Rookie Team," said UNCW Head Coach Kelly Van Houten. "She was a leader for us during her freshman season, both in the field and at the plate. She is very deserving of this honor." A native of Asheville, N.C., Critcher started all 51 games played during her rookie campaign and finished second on the team with a .273 batting average and 33 hits. She also showed great discipline at the plate, wrapping up her rookie season tied for fourth on the program's single-season chart for walks with 26. Defensively, Critcher led the team with 305 putouts and a .982 fielding percentage as she committed just six errors in 330 total chances. In other awards handed out Tuesday, James Madison's Ashley Burnham was named CAA Player-of-the-Year for the second time in three seasons while teammate Heather Kiefer was selected as the circuit's Rookie-of-the-Year honoree. Hofstra junior Olivia Galati was tabbed as the Pitcher of the Year for the third straight season and Pride skipper Bill Edwards was voted CAA Coach-of-the-Year for the fifth straight season. 2012 ALL-CAA SOFTBALL TEAM FIRST TEAM
