PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Maddison Timoteo went 2-for-3 with four RBI to lead Drexel to a 12-2 victory over UNCW in the finale of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series Sunday at the Drexel Softball Field.

Playing through steady rain showers, the Dragons improved to 20-22 overall and 5-9 in league play as it captured the series with the 10-run victory. The Seahawks moved to 8-38 and 3-12.

Timoteo highlighted a Drexel attack that combined for 10 hits in just four innings as senior Devon Metcalf and sophomore Comfort Ahonkhai were also 2-for-3 at the plate. Senior Paige Collings was 1-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Senior Ashley Shingleton was 2-for-3 with a run driven in for UNCW. Senior Stacey Pinno was 1-for-3 with a RBI and junior Lauryn Buckworth recorded the fourth Seahawks hit of the afternoon with a single in the top of the fifth.

Drexel took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, using a two-out error and singles from junior Amanda Bachmann and senior Hillary Allen to build the early advantage.

The Dragons expanded its lead to 9-0 in the bottom of the second, tallying six runs on three hits and three walks. A single by Metcalf and a bases-loaded walk to junior Jenn Reading brought home the first two runs of the frame before a grand slam by Timoteo closed out the scoring.

A three-run home run by Collings in the third stretched the Drexel advantage to 12-0 before UNCW got on the board in the top of the fourth with a one-out single by Pinno that plated Shingleton to make it 12-1.

Shingleton would give the Seahawks another run in the top of the fifth on a single to right field to score senior Kelsey Eddinger and make it a 12-2 ballgame, but Allen kept UNCW from getting any closer, working out a bases-loaded jam to end the fifth inning and evoke the eight-run mercy rule.

Allen picked up the win for the Dragons as she improved to 10-10 on the season. In five innings, Allen allowed two runs on four hits and five walks.

UNCW returns to action Wednesday as it closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Coastal Carolina.
