Release: 04/15/2012 TOWSON, Maryland - Junior hurler Katie Lingmai limited UNCW to one run on four hits to lead Towson past the Seahawks, 2-1, in Colonial Athletic Association softball action Sunday afternoon at Tiger Softball Complex. The Seahawks fell to 7-34 overall and 2-10 in league action after dropping the rubber match of the series. The Tigers boosted their record to 20-22 on the year and 5-7 in the CAA. UNCW tallied its only run and two of its hits in the seventh inning as the Seahawks tried to overcome a 2-0 deficit, but fell short of completing the comeback. Senior Ashley Shingleton got the rally attempt started, leading off the final UNCW inning with a double to left center field. After freshman Jordan Critcher popped up to second, junior Lauryn Buckworth continued her stellar series by driving another double down the left field line to score Shingleton. But Lingmai got the next two Seahawks out to clinch the win for the Tigers. The Elkton, Md., native Buckworth went 6-for-9 on the weekend, recording two doubles and a home run. She was 1-for-2 with a walk in Sunday's contest. Shingleton was the Seahawk standout, going 2-for-3 in the contest. Freshman Kristen Jernigan was the only other UNCW player with a hit. Senior Amanda Davenport was tagged for the loss in the contest after allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits. Freshman Casey Rowland relieved Davenport in the sixth inning, allowing no hits or runs. After Towson grabbed the early lead with one run in both the second and third innings, the UNCW pitching duo allowed just one hit the rest of the way. UNCW's next action comes Wednesday when the Seahawks travel to Campbell for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. |
