WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team will once again help “StrikeOut Cancer” when the Seahawks face Delaware in a Colonial Athletic Association contest Sunday at Boseman Field.

Second-year Head Coach Kristy Norton and her team will host its annual Molly Maid Pink Game/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) StrikeOut Cancer contest against the Blue Hens, hoping to raise awareness for breast cancer and support women's cancer research.

“We’re excited to host our NFCA StrikeOut Cancer contest," said Norton. "Cancer awareness is very important to our program here at UNCW and we look forward to doing our part to support this worthwhile initiative."

The team will be wearing pink apparel to support the cause and Elwood Moore, father of freshman shortstop Lauren Moore, will throw out the first pitch in honor of his late wife, Susan, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2010.

The Seahawks also be auctioning off a variety of items, including game jerseys, an engraved pink bat, an Akadema softball glove, golf bags and an autographed team ball. All proceeds benefit the Pretty In Pink Foundation that provides financial assistance and support to underinsured and uninsured North Carolinians with breast cancer.
