WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team opens Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend as it travels to Philadelphia for a three-game series against Drexel.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday with the start time for both days set for 11 a.m. Live stats are available for all three games and can be accessed by clicking on the link at the top of the page.

UNCW enters league play with a 13-14 record after managing a split of its home doubleheader Thursday against Marshall and North Carolina A&T. The Seahawks fell in their opener to the Thundering Herd, 8-5, before rallying for a 3-2 victory over the Lady Aggies in the nightcap.

Senior Brittany Gamby leads the UNCW lineup with 25 hits and a .357 batting average while freshman Nella Chamblee is second with a .343 batting average and a team-high 17 RBI. In the circle, junior Casey Rowland has paced the Seahawks rotation with a 2.19 earned run average and 85 strikeouts in 89.1 innings in the circle.

Drexel carries a 7-10 ledger into the start of league play following a 3-1 finish in the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational last weekend. Freshman Baeley Reed leads the Drexel attack with a .400 batting average and junior Leticia Matsuoka is second with a .391 batting average and a team-high 16 RBI. Senior Shelby Taylor and sophomore Tara Konopka have combined to pitch 97.2 of the team’s 109 innings in the field and have teamed up to post a 3.36 ERA and 83 strikeouts.

Drexel holds a 20-13 lead in the all-time series that dates back to the 1998 season. All but three of the previous 20 meetings have come with both programs as members of the CAA. The Dragons took two of three games in their league series last April at Boseman Field, winning the first two games, 4-1 and 6-2, before the Seahawks rallied for a 3-1 triumph in 13 innings in the finale.

UNCW returns to action next weekend as it hosts Delaware in a three-game CAA series March 29-30 at Boseman Field.
