Carolina - Team Teal exploded for
seven runs in the top of the eighth inning to record an 8-2 victory Over Team
Navy in the final game of the Seahawk Clash Saturday at Boseman Field.
Team Teal won the inaugural split-squad series by a 2-1 margin. All three games of the series went to extra innings. With the score tied at 1-all in the top of the eighth, Team Teal exploded for six runs before recording an out on its way to tallying seven runs and building a commanding 8-1 cushion. Team Navy plated a run in the bottom half of the eighth as junior Tori Sewell recorded her third RBI of the series with a double to center field. That would be as close as Team Navy would get, however, as Team Teal held on to post the six-run victory. Earlier in the game, Team Navy took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when junior Camry Wagner led off the inning with a single and later came around to score for the first run of the game.
Redshirt sophomore Jordyn
Schmidt tied the game at 1-all in the top of the fifth as she hit her second
home run of the series. The game would remain tied until the top of the eighth,
when Team Teal put the game way with its seven-run outburst.
Sophomore Casey Rowland picked up her second victory of the series in the circle for Team Teal, pitching all eight innings. Junior relief pitcher Ali Ruppe was saddled with the loss for Team Navy to finish the Seahawk Clash with a 1-1 record. Freshman Kayla Pine got the start for Team Navy and pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. |
