WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Seahawk Track & Field visits the Queen City this week for the Charlotte Invitational hosted by Charlotte at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center beginning on Thursday with several field events.

UNCW had a solid showing last week at the Coastal Carolina Classic and this week athletes look to improve their East Region standings as the NCAA First Round meet looms.

Meena Reid will compete in both the 100 and 200 meters, events in which she owns UNCW school records and is ranked 25th and 39th, respectively. She’ll also compete on the 4x100 Relay along with Krista Mangum, Sarah Whitman and Hailey Blackburn. Both Mangum and Blackburn will also race in the 100 meters while Blackburn has the 200 on her schedule too.

In the field events, Clarissa Perkins will compete in the Shot Put, Discus and Hammer Throws. Perkins owns UNCW’s top marks in the Shot Put (13.98m) and Discus (49.50m), which also are school records. Tierra Davis, meanwhile, will compete in the Discus and Hammer. In the Javelin, Melissa Stallings will look to improve upon her program-leading mark of 40.25m.

In the men’s 100, Jeremy Johnson, UNCW’s top sprinter in both the 100 (10.60) and 200 (21.82) will compete in both events as well as the 4x100 relay.

Ryan O'Connor is ranked 50th in the East with a time of 1:50.99 and will look to improve on those marks this weekend when he competes in the 800 and on the 4x400 Relay.

Aerial Chatman is the only other Seahawk ranked in the top 30 in the East with a mark of 49-9.75 feet in the Triple Jump. Chatman, who qualified for the 2012 NCAA First Round in the event, will also compete in the Long Jump.

The Seahawks head to the Penn Relay next when they return to action on Apr. 25, in Philadelphia, Pa.
